Quilled Bells Christmas Card

Making Christmas cards, do you participate?! I make a few, but not for everyone on my list! But here is a cute one for someone special (like maybe my next door neighbor!)

Quilled Bells Christmas Card by Katrina Hunt for 3 Birds Design

I started this card with just the idea of a quilled wreath. I looked around the internet for inspiration, but didn’t really find anything that caught my eye. So, I decided to create my own design. Which is easy to do with basic shapes and some quilled coils!

Quilled Bells Christmas Card by Katrina Hunt for 3 Birds Design

After my wreath was done, I knew it needed something else and that is where the bells came in! I took Chasity’s acorns as an idea and tweaked it. I glued 10 quilling strips together and then just rolled with it! Once I got the coil done, I stretched it similar to how she did her acorns. Then I SMASHED it! Which gives the bell it’s shape. I lined the inside with the glue, just like she did and let dry.

At this point, I still needed to add something, so I pulled out some stickers from the Holiday Quilled Cardmaking kit and then the Sticker Flair kit and created my sentiment.

And even though, I probably won’t mail this card, I think you could. Especially since the bells are smashed! In your cardmaking kit there are some foam sheets that are to help cushion your card if you should decide to mail it. How clever!!!

Christmas Card Ideas Part 2 using the Holiday Season Quilled Cardmaking Kit

Hello 3 Birds Fans! It's Juliana here to share some Christmas card ideas with you using our new Holiday Season Quilled Cardmaking Kit! I love how this kit covers the rainbow with both traditional and nontraditional Christmas colors. Yesterday, Robbie, shared two Christmas cards that were made using some of the brighter color combinations that are in the kit. The two cards that I'm sharing with you today were made using some of the more traditional colored pieces from the kit because I was drawn to the wood patterned paper and I just had to play with it!

To create the Good Times Good Cheer card, I cut a strip of the wood grained paper (from the Flora Festival Page Kit) and added it to the card front along with the green frame die cut. The sentiment is another die cut that I placed inside the card and you can see it through the square die cut window opening on the card. I then quilled a red poinsettia and two green holly boughs following the directions that come with the kit. The final touch was the addition of some red jewels from the Pearlescent and Foil Goodie Box and a twine bow.

The Tis the Season card started with another die cut window card as the base. I added a strip of cardstock paper to the card front as well as the die cut frame. Next, I attached the small square die cut images to the inside of the card. I then added the Tis the Season sentiment and created a quilled holly berry to further embellish the card.

So have you started working on your Christmas cards yet? We sure hope that you'll be using your 3 Birds Holiday Season Quilled Cardmaking Kit to create them!

Christmas Card Ideas Part 1 using the Holiday Season Quilled Cardmaking Kit

Hi everyone! Robbie today to share a couple of quick and easy cards that I made using the Holiday Season Quilled Cardmaking Kit. With the holiday season getting so busy, this Card Kit makes last minute cards a snap!

Christmas Cards by Robbie Herring for 3 Birds DesignThere are so many precious little pieces included in the kit! I used a few of the die-cut pieces to put this snowflake card together. I also added a few pieces from the Pearlescent and Foil Goodie Box. Seriously, that little box has turned out to be one of my favorite go-to embellishment packages.

Christmas Cards by Robbie Herring for 3 Birds DesignQuick and easy doesn't have to mean that there aren't details. I added a few little punched pieces and some ribbon to add more detail.

Christmas Cards by Robbie Herring for 3 Birds DesignOn this card, I decided to go non-traditional with the colors. We have some friends who are expecting a baby and I thought this little card would be perfect for a little one.

I again added a few little details with the Goodie Box and Ribbon. For a bit more detail and dimension, I added some foam tape to the back of the ornaments. I also added a bit of baker's twine to give the illusion of hanging ornaments.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Fall Gift Bag

Happy Thanksgiving a day early to all the US people out there! And Canada, here is wishing you early for next year!

It’s Katrina here today to share a fun little altered gift bag that would work to bring some goodies to a fall party, or to just use for a hostess gift. You could whip this bag up today and take it tomorrow to all your festivities!

Fall Gift Bag by Katrina Hunt for 3 Birds DesignI love brown bags from the craft store that you can decorate for any season. I try to keep some on hand at all times. The Midday Medley collection works great for this fall themed bag that I did.

I just covered the front with the fun plaid paper, then I added a few die cut leaves. I really wanted the leaves to stand out, so I inked the edges. I am usually not an inker, but the gold on the black leaf was calling to me!

Fall Gift Bag by Katrina Hunt for 3 Birds DesignOnce I used the gold ink on the edge of the leaf, I knew I had to use some of the goodies in the Touch of Glimmer kit! I used an arrow card just as an added layer and then the little green and gold medallion worked perfect with a die cut leaf to accent the corner.

Fall Gift Bag by Katrina Hunt for 3 Birds DesignAnd I decided to ink all the leaves and also pop them with foam adhesive. This gives the bag a little more dimension and pop of something fun. I am not a “one color” inking type of person, so I mixed it up with the gold, yellow and orange!

Christmas Banner

The holiday season is here 3Birds friends, and today I have a fun little banner to share with you that would look great hanging from a mantle or even draped across a window!

Christmas Banner by Mary Ann Jenkins for 3 Birds DesignThis was so quick and easy to make using cards from the For All Seasons Themed Cards. I choose six color coordinating pieces from the Winter set, and then to give them a bit of sparkle, backed them all with gold glitter paper from the 8x8 Glitter Paper Pad. For the “Happy Holidays” piece, I also added my version of a Christmas poinsettia by using both gold and red pieces from the Holiday Season Edition of the Quilled Cardmaking Kit, by first spinning the gold layer, then adding the red layer.

All That Glitters | Using Glitter Paper and Embellishments on a Scrapbook Page

I know we are officially in the cool months of Fall, but I’m going to jump back a season to the warm days of a Summer vacation for the layout I have to share today.

Vacation Flowers Scrapbook Page by Mary Ann Jenkins for 3 Birds DesignTo start my layout, I cut out the shape of Montana using the beautiful gold glitter paper from the Graceful Season 8x8 Glitter Paper Pad and my Silhouette die cutting machine. I love that the paper cuts so smoothly, and is so sparkly too! Next I added the die cut shape to the pretty purple floral paper and added a strip of purple paper to the top of my layout.

Vacation Flowers Scrapbook Page by Mary Ann Jenkins for 3 Birds DesignI paired up the gold and white frame and the cute glitter polka dot bow from the Touch of Glimmer Embellishment Kit along with the purple glitter chipboard journaling shape from the Graceful Season Sticky Sparkly Chipboard Kit . (can you see a glitter theme here??) I hand wrote my journaling and layered it and the bow on top of the frame and my photo.

Vacation Flowers Scrapbook Page by Mary Ann Jenkins for 3 Birds Design

Next I did more layering using the gold glitter arrow with the chipboard star circle and added a title that was also cut from the gold glitter paper using my Silhouette. A few star chipboard pieces, some gold sequins, and a little bit of machine stitching completed my layout. I sure love how pretty the glittery pieces from the paper pads and embellishment kits are and how they all coordinate so well together!

A Trio of Handmade Cards | Raechelle Bellus Guest Designer

Guest Designer Raechelle Bellus is back with us today to inspire you with a trio of handmade cards that she created using our new Touch of Glimmer Kit and Flora Festival Page Kit. Take a look. You are going to want to pull out your 3 Birds supplies and start playing!

Trio of Handmade Cards by Raechelle Bellus Guest Designer for 3 Birds DesignCreating quick and pretty cards has never been easier! The Touch of Glimmer Kit is full of amazing bits and pieces that will provide endless possibilities and inspiration. Just pair it with the cards from the 'Flora Festival' Premier Page Kit and you'll spend just minutes creating a perfect homemade card for someone you love.

Wishing You Happiness Card by Raechelle Bellus Guest Designer for 3 Birds DesignThis card took less than 10 minutes to create. I don't think I have ever had a card come together so quickly. I just started pulling the beautiful gold accents from the Touch of Glimmer Kit and layering them upon a pre-made card from the 'Flora Festival' Premiere Page Kit. It was that easy. I added some of the lovely gold sequins in the kit to finish it off.

Hello There Card by Raechelle Bellus Guest Designer for 3 Birds DesignFor this card I added a small piece of paper from the Flora Festival Premier Page Kit that I punched and then adhered to a pre-made card from the same kit. I then added some twine. I trimmed down one of the larger pieces from the Touch of Glimmer kit and then punched the edge and adhered at a slight angle using dimensional foam. I used the cute typewriter and sentiment chipboard stickers from the page kit and added the circular sticker and sequins from the the Touch of Glimmer Kit to finish this one off.

Thank You Card by Raechelle Bellus Guest Designer for 3 Birds DesignI began by cutting a piece of patterned paper a little smaller than the premade card and machine stitched it. I then adhered it to the card. I also used a small piece of punched paper to pull some color into the card which I layered underneath the pennant. Next I added the beautiful gold pennant and layered the tag and bow from the Touch of Glimmer Kit upon it. I finished it off with the chipboard sentiment and pearl from the Page kit. I sprinkled a few gold sequins to finish it off.

Merry Christmas Layout

Hi everyone! Robbie today to share a page that I made. Last week, I told you I was in the Christmas mood, so I made another Christmas layout.

Merry Christmas Layout by Robbie Herring for #3birdsdesign #layout #christmastimeThis layout is proof that the card kits aren't just for cards! There are so many great shapes and sentiments in the cards kits that will work beautifully on your layouts, too.

Merry Christmas Layout by Robbie Herring for #3birdsdesign #layout #christmastimeThis beautiful little wreath is in the card kit and is ready to go! I just added a few of the foil pieces and I had an instant design element for my page.

Merry Christmas Layout by Robbie Herring for #3birdsdesign #layout #christmastimeThe quilled poinsettias are also from the card kit.

Tip | Mix up bit and pieces from other collections. I used chipboard, pearls, stickers and die-cuts to add interest and dimension.

Merry Christmas Layout by Robbie Herring for #3birdsdesign #layout #christmastimeDon't forget the little touches. For balance, I added a couple of holly leaves, also from the card kit, to the corner of the photo to pull it all together.

Quilled Poinsettia Christmas Home Decor Frame

Hello 3 Birds Fans! It's Juliana here and I don't know about you, but I'm definitely getting into the holiday crafting spirit thanks to the new 3 Birds Holiday Season Quilled Cardmaking Kit. I have used this new kit to create quite a few Christmas cards and tags, which I will be sharing with you soon. Today however, I want to share a quilled poinsettia Christmas frame that I created. This is kit doesn't have to only be used for cardmaking and I think this project really showcases the versatility of this kit!

Quilled Poinsettia Merry Christmas Home Decor Frame by Juliana Michaels for 3 Birds Design

I started with a square frame from my local craft store and removed the glass to make room for the project since the quilled poinsettias are quite dimensional. To create the background, I cut a piece of patterned paper from the Flora Festival Page Kit sized to fit the opening of the frame. Next I adhered one of the holly wreath die cuts from the Holiday Season Quilled Cardmaking kit.

Quilled Poinsettia Merry Christmas Home Decor Frame by Juliana Michaels for 3 Birds DesignNext, I created five quilled poinsettias. To create the poinsettias I used one of each color of the red die cut strips in the kit and followed the instructions to create the flowers.

DESIGNER TIP | Clear adhesive dots are a great option for adhering quilled flowers to a project. The eliminate the mess of liquid glue and the danger of hot glue guns.

Quilled Poinsettia Merry Christmas Home Decor Frame by Juliana Michaels for 3 Birds Design

I then added the die cut "Merry Christmas". The final touch was the addition of some of red jewels to create clusters of "berries" on the wreath and on the Merry Christmas.

I can't wait to display this festive piece in my home during the holiday season. Do you enjoy creating decorations for the holidays? We'd love to see them!

HUGS!

Give Thanks Embroidery Hoop Fall Home Decor

I cannot believe fall is here and it’s almost Thanksgiving here in the US. November is half over and Christmas will be here before we know it! But I am keeping with Thanksgiving here on the blog.

This project is super easy to create and would look great greeting your visitors or as a centerpiece for a table.

Give Thanks Embroidery Hoop Fall Home Decor by Katrina Hunt for 3 Birds DesignThis is just a wooden embroidery hoop that I altered to use as a decoration. I have a few of these around, because I used to cross-stitch. But, you can find these in your local craft store or for cheap at flea markets!

I used the Midday Medley paper collection, Nestable Sticker pad, For All Seasons cards, and the Pearlescent and Foil Goodie box to create with. I pulled out the “Give Thanks” card and then added some layers behind it, popping them up with some foam adhesive.

Give Thanks Embroidery Hoop Fall Home Decor by Katrina Hunt for 3 Birds DesignI added the die cut leaf wreath under the card cluster as an accent. Then I decided it needed a little glam and then added a few of the Pearlescent goodies to it near the cards.

Give Thanks Embroidery Hoop Fall Home Decor by Katrina Hunt for 3 Birds DesignThe sticker was easy to add to the edge, you just have to plan! And have some baby powder on hand. Just pull the sticker out of the pad carefully and then sprinkle baby powder all over the sticky back. This will take away the stickiness, but you will still be able to attach the sticker with adhesive dots or liquid glue on the parts that are touching the hoop. I did have to trim my sticker slightly to make it fit, but I covered that part up with a bow!

Thanksgiving Turkey Place Cards

Hi 3 Birds friends, its Mary Ann here today with something fun to add to your Thanksgiving table! How about turkey place cards?

Thanksgiving Turkey Place Cards by Mary Ann Jenkins for 3 Birds DesignThese are really so easy to make, and will add just the perfect touch to each place setting! To start, I made the “feathers” by cutting 3 scalloped circles using my Silhouette die cutting machine. (scalloped circle punches would also work for this!) Next, I cut the circles in half, and glued them on to my place card base made from a 4x5 piece of cardstock that had been folded in half.

Thanksgiving Turkey Place Cards by Mary Ann Jenkins for 3 Birds DesignThe turkey body and beak were cut from cardstock and added to on top of the feathers. For the turkey’s wattle, I cut the individual piece from a strip of red quilling paper found in the Holiday Season Card Making Kit. Next came the googly eyes that I had in my stash of craft supplies.

Thanksgiving Turkey Place Cards by Mary Ann Jenkins for 3 Birds DesignAfter the turkey body was complete, I added a rectangle piece of patterned paper, and did some machine stitching around the edges. *Designer Tip: You can also achieve a “stitched” look by making a dash lined border around the edges with a marker. To complete the place cards, I printed the names on my computer, then cut into small strips and added to the center of each card.

Thanksgiving Turkey Place Cards by Mary Ann Jenkins for 3 Birds DesignI used the same patterned papers for all my turkeys, but you could also use any leftover paper scraps and give each turkey its own individual look and colors.

Thanksgiving Tablescape with 3D Quilling Strip Acorns

Well, Hello there my Chickadees! Chasity here today to share my own take on the Turkey Tablescape! I was so inspired by Juliana's wonderful ideas! I can't even believe that the Holiday Season is almost upon us! I might be in denial, but I blame this unseasonably warm Cleveland weather we've been enjoying! So today I ignored my  enormous amount of leaves I should be raking, and played with some paper instead! Here is what I came up with!

Thanksgiving Tablescape by Chasity Sivanick for #3birdsdesign #paperpumpkins #homedecor #3DpapershapesSo, my favorite part about this are the Quilling Strip 3D Acorns! I made these little pretties today in the office, then made the rest of it at home! The 3D acorns were easier to do then I thought they would be. I saw them on (you guessed it…) Pinterest, and just had to try them! Here is what you will need to made these: Approximately 20 strips of brown quilling strips, 20 strips of off white quilling strips, a good adhesive that dries clear, a quilling tool and a inexpensive paintbrush. I took 15 strips of the same color, (brown) quilling strips and glued them end to end. (It hung off my desk and coiled on the floor!) I began hand quilling them. I had to go a little slower once the coil started to get thick, but it was manageable! Once I finished quilling the long strip, I glued the end and pulled to off the quilling tool. I then took 12 quilling strips of the off white, and repeated the process! Here's what they looked like once I finished quilling them. Notice that the brown is slightly larger than the off white. This is so the brown top will overlap the off white bottom slightly.

3D Quilling Shapes by Chasity Sivanick for #3birdsdesign #paperart #paperacornNext I took my quilling tool, and used it as a sort of rolling pin to flatten the strips and make them even. This tool is very useful!

3D Quilling Shapes by Chasity Sivanick for #3birdsdesign #paperart #paperacornThis is important to do because it keeps the strips more even when you start to manipulate them into the dimensional 1/2 circles that will make the acorn top and bottom! The next step is the trickiest part. It takes some practice, but once you get the hang of it, it looks great! Don't forget, if you're not happy with your results, just press the shape flat on the table, repeat the "Rolling Pin" step, and start again! Start by holding the quilled circle between both forefingers and thumbs, apply even pressure with your thumbs while rotating the circle back and forth. This is called the "doorknob turning" method. Here is a photo of how to hold and manipulate the coil circle.

3D Quilling Shapes by Chasity Sivanick for #3birdsdesign #paperart #paperacornAs you can see, the coil circle will start to form a dome shape! Once you get the desired shape, repeat the same steps with the other coil circle. This will become the bottom of the acorn!

3D Quilling Shapes by Chasity Sivanick for #3birdsdesign #paperart #paperacornWhen both halves are completed, squeeze a small amount of glue into the inside, or well, of the 1/2 domes. Take an inexpensive brush and brush the walls of the insides of the domes. Set aside and let then dry. Then take 2 brown quilling strips and tightly quill them and glue. These will be stacked and glued to become the stem of the acorn.

3D Quilling Shapes by Chasity Sivanick for #3birdsdesign #paperart #paperacornOnce the 2 domes are dry, place a bead of glue around the edge of the off white dome and place it into the top dome and allow to dry. Add the stacked coils and glue for the stem. Here is what it will look like once the acorn is assembled!

3D Quilling Shapes by Chasity Sivanick for #3birdsdesign #paperart #paperacornIf you would like to add the curly pieces, here's what you do: cut a 6" brown quilling strip down the center about a half an inch from the end all the way though the other side, basically cutting it almost in half. Quill it around the tool, then uncoil and glue to the side of the stem. I just loved the way these turned out! I had so much fun with these that I am already thinking about how I can make a string of lights for some Christmas decor! I hope that you give them a try too!

So, for the rest of my table display, I made some simple paper pumpkins using 1: x 7" strips of paper from the Midday Medley Paper Pack. I attached the ends with brads, and decorated them with some fake leaves I had laying around, and some paper bows from the Touch of Glimmer Kit. I made the card from a pocket card from the "For All Seasons" Pocket Card Kit. I just love all the foil and glitter accents! I arranged all my paper goodies in the center of table, and I am ready to go!
