Goodie Box Photo Wreath

Need a fun idea for decorating your teen's room? How about making a photo wreath! It’s Katrina and I have a tutorial to share on how quickly and simply make your own photo wreath that can be used over and over!

Photo Wreath Katrina Hunt for 3 Birds Design Fun, right?! This idea came from a dear college freshman, who made one for her dorm room from fabric. She had found it on Pinterest. I did my own take on what I had seen of hers. I got a wooden wreath from a craft store to use as my base. I covered the base with Liquid Fabric Fuse Adhesive from Therm O Web, using a foam brush.

Photo Wreath Tutorial by Katrina Hunt for 3 Birds Design I then laid my base down on the back of a piece of pattern paper from the Midday Medley collection. Trim around the edges with a craft knife.

Photo Wreath Tutorial by Katrina Hunt for 3 Birds Design An easy way to trim out the middle is to cut an X in it and then trim out each section. If I try to trim out the entire piece, I have a tendency to make a mess!

Photo Wreath Tutorial by Katrina Hunt for 3 Birds Design My wreath was slightly larger than my sheet of paper (mainly because I didn’t think about it when I bought it!), so I added some extra pieces of paper to make it work out where all the edges were covered.

Then I started placing clothespins around the circle to figure out how many I wanted to use.

Photo Wreath Tutorial by Katrina Hunt for 3 Birds Design Once I had a good idea, then the fun begins with decorating them. Zots Bling from Therm O Web work perfectly to attach those fun Pearlescent & Foil Goodies! They are small enough to fit on the back of the gem, so that you cannot see them.

Photo Wreath Tutorial by Katrina Hunt for 3 Birds Design Some of the clips I left and just added the gems to, others I cut strips of paper to decorate them and added things here or there.

Photo Wreath Katrina Hunt for 3 Birds Design I used goodies from the 3D Embellishments sets and from the Sticker Flair kit. So fun to mix and match with the collections.

I alternated which way the clips were facing around the wreath. This way you can have pictures on the inside and outside of the wreath.

Photo Wreath Katrina Hunt for 3 Birds Design This would be a GREAT first altered project, if you haven’t done altered before. Or a fun thing for a sleepover and everyone could take home a wreath!

Altered Chalk Board

Hi everyone! Robbie here today sharing an Altered Chalkboard that I came up with. I am loving the chalkboard craze lately and I couldn't resist this little chalkboard that was done as an easel. I've seen these in several places, but this one I picked up at World Market.

The first step before you start to decorate your chalkboard is the scallops that are painted on the chalkboard. I used a Sharpie paint pen to paint these. Super quick and easy.

DESIGNER TIP | Don't worry about perfection! Just go for it! You will see that mine aren't perfect. For a chalkboard, I actually liked the look. Odds are that the writing on a chalkboard won't be perfect either! It's more about the overall effect.

To cover the base, I cut strips of the black polka dot paper to the width of each of the sides. I cut the pink striped paper 1/2 inch wider than the width of the black and punched all the edges using my Fiskars scalloped border punch.

Glue the pink first and then layer the black over the top.

Use the left-over black pieces to cover the legs of the easel.

Be sure to cut the chalkboard tray pieces, too.

Next up is the fun part! Decorating!! Of course, being a flower lover, I went with quilled roses for the main element of my embellishing. I added a little banner from the layered sticker sheet, a few punched flowers and I was ready to finish this little chalkboard.

Because I will actually use this, I wanted to make sure that I had chalk actually included with it. I'm not a fan of the way chalk feels in my hand, so I added a bit of paper around it. I also liked the way this looks and adds a bit more decoration to the project.

DESIGNER TIP | Use really strong glue to adhere the paper around the chalk. Glue to the chalk first. Let dry. Roll and glue it closed.

Thanks for stopping by to take a peek at my project!

Altered Photo Tray

Katrina today sharing an altered photo tray with you. This will be hanging in my office, once I get walls! I used the Graceful Seaoson, mixed with Midday Medley goodies again!

I have always loved the looked of these trays, but didn’t want to pay full price for a finished one. I ran across one that you could paint, which was much cheaper. I picked up some paint to go along with it and here is where it started.

This And That Altered Tray by Katrina Hunt for 3 Birds Design #3birdsdesign #alteredtray #home decor #middaymedleyI measured for pictures, figuring out that I just wanted three total, because I wanted to decorate also. I started basically from the top, working my way down the tray.

DESIGNER TIP | Use foam adhesive to pop things up and give them dimension. This allows things to be seen. Here, every layer has foam adhesive except the “this and that” card.

And the glitter paper that comes in the Midday Medley collection cuts like BUTTER! I was so excited when that chevron heart just cut right out with no problem! And the glitter does not flake off! Love that!

I used the chipboard and 3D embellishments from the Graceful Season collection to embellish this area. I did cut the banner down, because it was just a little too big to drape across the square.

This And That Altered Tray by Katrina Hunt for 3 Birds Design #3birdsdesign #alteredtray #home decor #middaymedleyI used a couple of stamps from the Midday Medley Timeless Stamp kit to make a center for one of the bottom squares.

Jumping Into Altered Projects

Do altered projects scare you? Or do you just jump right in? Katrina here, and I am a jump in kind of girl. With the Graceful Season collection, it’s easy to create something altered, since everything is coordinated! I am sharing an altered canvas here today.

I started by covering the canvas with the green paper, using matte medium gel. This is a thick type of glue that works great for canvas work. I tend to make the edges of the canvas look as nice as I can, by either wrapping the paper around to the back, or for example mitering the corner like you see here. Kind of like wrapping a present!

I knew I wanted to have a big bow on this canvas. The papers made me want one! So, I cut one out of a file on my Silhouette and finally decided that I wanted to place it at the top of the canvas. I embellished the middle of the bow with that cute little glitter, sparkly chipboard flower. There were several I could have used, but I liked the way this one looked.

The canvas was longer than 12 inches, so I covered the extra by punching three borders out of various papers and layering them at the bottom. I then added some chipboard, popped up with foam adhesive for a little embellishment to the area.

Do More Canvas by Katrina Hunt for 3 Birds Studio detail 3I loved this quote, so I cut it out and then backed it with various scraps of paper to make the wording stand out. I added the little pointing finger chipboard to the “o” on the word “of”. It just seemed to fit right there perfectly.
