Christmas Card Ideas Part 1 using the Holiday Season Quilled Cardmaking Kit

Hi everyone! Robbie today to share a couple of quick and easy cards that I made using the Holiday Season Quilled Cardmaking Kit. With the holiday season getting so busy, this Card Kit makes last minute cards a snap!

There are so many precious little pieces included in the kit! I used a few of the die-cut pieces to put this snowflake card together. I also added a few pieces from the Pearlescent and Foil Goodie Box. Seriously, that little box has turned out to be one of my favorite go-to embellishment packages.

Quick and easy doesn't have to mean that there aren't details. I added a few little punched pieces and some ribbon to add more detail.

On this card, I decided to go non-traditional with the colors. We have some friends who are expecting a baby and I thought this little card would be perfect for a little one.



I again added a few little details with the Goodie Box and Ribbon. For a bit more detail and dimension, I added some foam tape to the back of the ornaments. I also added a bit of baker's twine to give the illusion of hanging ornaments.

Merry Christmas Layout

Hi everyone! Robbie today to share a page that I made. Last week, I told you I was in the Christmas mood, so I made another Christmas layout.

This layout is proof that the card kits aren't just for cards! There are so many great shapes and sentiments in the cards kits that will work beautifully on your layouts, too.

This beautiful little wreath is in the card kit and is ready to go! I just added a few of the foil pieces and I had an instant design element for my page.

The quilled poinsettias are also from the card kit.

Tip | Mix up bit and pieces from other collections. I used chipboard, pearls, stickers and die-cuts to add interest and dimension.

Don't forget the little touches. For balance, I added a couple of holly leaves, also from the card kit, to the corner of the photo to pull it all together.

I Believe in Santa Claus | Scrapbook Page

 

Hi everyone! Robbie today to share a page that I made. I'm ready for the holiday season to begin and with all the great choices of new products from 3 Birds, I couldn't resist making a Christmas page!



The title sticker was a natural fit because of the photo, too. I chose it because it echoes the print on Mom's shirt.



DESIGNER TIP | I added foam to the back of the sticker to make it easier to layer and to match up with the dimension of the other embellishments.



More layering was added with the flat stickers that were used for design and the terrific poinsettias that are included in the quilling kit. Here, I used pink centers to continue the non-traditional color choices.



 

The final touches include a big bow and more bits and pieces from the Quilled Card Kit Holiday season Edition.

Sugar Sweet with the Flora Festival Page Kit

Hi everyone! Robbie today to share a page that I made that focuses on the Flora Festival Premier Page Kit.



There are so many great elements included in the Page Kit! Everything from paper and dimensional stickers to chipboard and card making pieces are all at your fingertips and perfectly coordinated!

I added simple long stitches to compliment my design. Adding a few pearls from the Pearlescent and Foil Goodie Box added some red to places that I wanted to pull the red in throughout the design.

This close-up lets you see some easy layering, a couple more pearls and the letter stickers. When making titles, think about mixing up the colors or fonts with your letters. Because she was holding a lollipop, I wanted to add in sugar. I was able to keep the title and message in the red, but add that extra word in a fun way!

You can see in this photo the way I added the long stitches. It is such an easy and quick way to add detail without a lot of hassle.

Silver & Gold

Hi everyone! Robbie today to share a page that I made that focuses on the Flora Festival Premier Page Kit and the Touch of Glimmer Embellishment Kit.

This layout starts with a fabulous sheet of paper from the Premier Page Kit. I love the look of this paper for the outdoor photo that I used. Combining this paper with a peach sticker and doilies, gave me just the base I was looking for.

I layered some beautiful elements from the Touch of Glimmer Embellishment Kit. These coordinate perfectly with the Page Kit. Notice the glittery and foil accents that are on these pieces! So beautiful!

This close-up shows more embellishments that are included in the kits. I love the dimensional sticker pieces. They make layering so easy!

DESIGNER TIP | Don't be afraid to mix gold and silver. They work so well together!

The Pearlescent and Foil Goodie Box jewels go great with the foil accents that are included in this kit! 3 Birds does it again with making their releases go so seamlessly together!

Mix & Match Everyday

Hi everyone! Robbie today to share a page that I made using a mix of 3 Birds products. This layout is all about texture and finishes. I really like to mix texture for pages. In addition to different textures being great for things you can touch, texture can also bring visual dimension and interest.

The layout features many different 3 Birds products. I included chipboard, dimensional stickers, flat stickers and pearlescent pieces. Each of them has a different finish and detailing.

In this close-up you can see many different visual textures in one small space. There is glitter, flat chipboard, smooth pearlescent pieces and the sheen of foil accents, in addition to a canvas and burlap flower from my stash.

This close-up shows many of the same textures and ribbon is added. For more detail and to mix the dimension, I added foam dots to the back of the flower and chipboard circle.

More layers that include all the parts and pieces come together on the bottom corner of the photo. I purposely used the larger pieces in this section to add weight to the bottom of the page.

DESIGNER TIP | Chipboard layers perfectly over the dimensional stickers. It is strong enough to hold its' shape to stand the test of time in your books.

Mixing & Matching With 3 Birds Design

Hi everyone! Robbie today to share a page that I made using a mix of 3 Birds products. One of the things that I have loved about all the new releases is the way that they blend with the past collections and releases so seamlessly. For my layout, I pulled chipboard from the Graceful Seasons collection, paper from the Floral Festival Page Kit, Stickers from the Midday Medley collection and more!

The layout was built around the picture,of course. I thought it was so cute and I wanted to play up the hammer she is holding. There are so many great silver pieces spread throughout the collections, so that became the common thread in the embellishing. The silver chipboard alphabets fit perfectly with this idea.

A journal card and and silver sequins that are included in the Touch of Glimmer Embellishment kit were sweet additions to the page. Notice the tiny pink bows on the card. It goes really well with the oval stickers that i chose from the Midday Medley Sticker Pad.

To embellish near the photo, I added a few things from my stash and layered chipboard flowers that are in the chipboard set. Finally, if you take a close look, you will see that the photo is matted with a glittery piece that is also included in the Touch of Glimmer Embellishment kit. That got me thinking that I wanted to add a bit of glitter to punched leaves that I tucked behind the roses.

The page still seemed to be lacking a little something, so a added some blue and lavender stitching to pull the whole thing together.

Happy Scrapbook Page

Hi everyone! Robbie today to share a page that I made with the Midday Medley Collection. This page was done using a sweet family photo. It doesn't have journaling or say a lot, but the picture told the story in a small way on its own.

Sometimes, I just want to create without worrying about the perfect title or journaling. Admittedly, I'm not a big on journaling in the first place and on this one I simply added one of the 3D Embellishment for a title.

The creative process included some fussy cutting and stitching. I wanted to add a couple of butterflies to the page, but would you believe that I don't have have a butterfly punch? I DO have a flower punch though, so I just cut off one of the petals and I had tiny butterflies! This might not have worked but the stitching completed the idea.

I also added some punched flowers to the centers of the fussy cut flowers. I wanted to add some dimension an interest to the centers. They were finished off with the pearlescent pieces.

DESIGNER TIP | To give your flat flowers some dimension, a really easy way to do it is to cut a small slit in between each of the petals. If you want them to be hard and hold up well in your scrapbook, use a glue stick and start by gluing two together before you shape them. Shape them before they are dry and when they are totally dry, they will be hard.

DESIGNER TIP | One more tip on glue sticks. Not all glue sticks are created equal. For a glue stick that hardens and holds every time, my favorite is the RoseArt glue sticks. The best part about that is they are also the least expensive ones that I've found.

Quick & Easy Cards & Tags Using Scraps

Hi everyone! It's Robbie today to share some cards and a tag inspired by... ME! Seriously, why not stretch an idea even further? Recently, I made a two page layout (Zoo Fun Day) for the 3 Birds Design Studio blog and I was really happy with the color combination that I ended up using. While it was all sitting on the table, I realized that I had a lot of scraps and all the supplies at my fingertips which led me to make a couple of quick cards and tag to have on hand.

If you were to look back at my layout, you will notice that in addition to the paper and color choices, I also repeated a lot of the same techniques and elements that I used on the layouts. It really made these come together quickly.

The colors that I used in the layout happened to really compliment kraft paper, too. I used a little pre-made kraft tag and added a kraft bag to the photo to show the whole set.

Using the same doilies and stitching ideas that were on the layout worked nicely for the cards, too.

DESIGNER TIP | When stitching the doilies for cards, be sure to stitch them ahead of time and adhere them after. This will cut down on trying o cover the backside of your stitching on the inside of the card.

More details that were copied from the original layout and used on the cards include the punched borders, the ribbons and even the same pearl goodies.

Remember next time you make a project you like to think about getting some cards or tags made to have on hand! It's always great, especially with the busy holiday season around the corner, to have these handy when you need them!

Zoo Fun Day | September Sketch Challenge

Hi everyone! It's Robbie today to share my take on the cute 2 page sketch. I'm another one who doesn't do many 2 page layouts anymore. I find that I don't have enough photos of most things to support 2 pages. What I do love about 2 page layouts is that there is more opportunity to share the story of the photos. On my layout, I used 5 photos instead of 7 photos, but even without journaling, you can clearly see what was going on in this trip to the zoo.

By now, you know that I like the little details that make up a page. The linear look of the sketch left me lots of space to add my own touches. Simple punched border strips added a bit of flair around the basic squares and bordered the set of photos without taking away from them.

I also added some long stitches along the edges. To make sure that my larger pictures really popped, I raised them up with some cardboard glued to the back.

In the sketch photo, there were both larger and smaller flowers. For my layout, I felt that the larger flowers that I tried were taking away from my photos and throwing off the balance of my layout. I chose to use all small flowers to accent my layout and leave the focus where it should be, on the photos.

For the title work, I mixed both alphabet letters and a sticker. I love to mix up different elements and the 3 Birds Stickers give so many options! The other thing that I wanted to try to show with this close-up is the way I altered the height of the photos. As I said before, I raised the larger photos with cardboard. As my layout came together, I realized that I had all the height on the page at each end. Raising one of the smaller one's brought back the balance.

Gift Set | Magnets & Trivets

Hi everyone! It's Robbie again today. Last week, on the 3 Birds Blog, I shared a card that I made using the new Pearlescent and Foil Goodie Box. On my blog, I shared a matching gift bag and tag. Today, I'm back to share the little gifties that I put together to go in the bag!

I love to give little kitchen gifts because everyone can use them. With the versatility of the 3 Birds collections, you are sure to be able to find a color combination that will work with any kitchen, too. For this gift, I made a couple of trivets and matching magnet set. I also added a whisk and a wooden spoon for a little extra.

DESIGNER TIP | It would be really cute to add some cup towels or wash rags. The ideas for the kitchen are endless!

The trivets are 6 1/2 x 6 1/2 tiles that I picked up at Home Depot to alter. These are perfect because you can use the 6 x 6 pads with it. These are SO SIMPLE!

Directions: Use Mod Podge to adhere your paper to the tile. After it's dried, add another coat of Mod Podge to the top. After that is completely dry, seal with a spray sealer and add cork pieces to the bottom corners.

The last thing I made was a set of 4 magnets to match. They work great as a little tie-on for gifts and are really practical, too.

Directions: Glue flat-back glass pieces to small scraps of paper with Glossy Accents. If you don't have Glossy Accents, any strong glue that dries clear will work. After it is completely dry, trim around the glass piece as closely as possible. Glue a magnet to the back, also using a strong clear drying glue. I used Glossy Accents for this, as well.

Now, pop the magnets in a little organza bag, tie a great bow to attach the magnets to and put the whole thing in your matching bag. Quick and Easy gift! When you sit down to make them, think about making a couple of sets. Then you'll have another gift for when you are in a pinch!

Pearlescent & Foil Goodie Box Inspiration – Quilled Card

Hi everyone! Robbie here to talk about how much I love the Pearlescent and Foil Goodie Box that 3 Birds is releasing on HSN soon! This little box contains so many little flat backed pieces that are perfect for adding that extra touch of fabulous to your projects.

For today, I wanted to show you a little card that I made using quilled flowers combined with the Pearlescent and Foil pieces. After you take a look here, be sure to stop by my blog where I'm sharing a matching Gift Bag and Tag.

As you know by now, the quilled roses that you can make with the card kit are my favorites!! When I got this goodie box, I knew that I wanted to put some centers in my flowers, so that is what I did here with the card

I'm including a super close photo so you can see what it looks like. I just used tiny glue dots to adhere them right to the top. I also added them to the leaves the same way. No need to push down on them, the sit perfectly right on the top of the center.

One more close up to show the dimension of my card. A strip of paper with a border of punched paper added to the card completed the base. I used a Fiskars Scalloped Border punch for the borders.

I used foam dots to raise the doily from the background. I like the way this made it sit nicely against the bow.

Once I got started, I couldn't stop playing with this combination of products. Drop by next week to see what I put in the bag!

August Scrapbook Sketch Take 5 | Robbie Herring

Hi everyone! Robbie here today to share my take on the August Scrapbook Sketch! It is such a fun sketch and you can see from the previous posts that each of us had a different vision of it to make it come to life. As I've said in the past, 3 Birds collections are so versatile! Using the same sketch and the same products to come up with such different pages shows just how versatile the collections are!

To start, I built my background. I used Chasity's fabulous tip using the Xyron Create to adhere the vellum to my page.

Instead of using several triangles to build my corners, I chose to use several strips to mimic the look of the sketch. I combined ribbon, stitching and even quilling strips to complete the look. The quilling strips are perfect to add directly to the page and the scalloped ones add such a cute touch!

Next up, I layered some pieces from the Summer Themed Card Set for some layering around the photo. Instead of using the card 'as is', I fussy cut around the cute scallops.



Of course, this is my page, so I added some little felt flowers, a few doilies and some extra stitching to embellish it! The 3D embellishment piece fit perfectly for a little extra touch!
