Quilled Bells Christmas Card

Making Christmas cards, do you participate?! I make a few, but not for everyone on my list! But here is a cute one for someone special (like maybe my next door neighbor!)



I started this card with just the idea of a quilled wreath. I looked around the internet for inspiration, but didn’t really find anything that caught my eye. So, I decided to create my own design. Which is easy to do with basic shapes and some quilled coils!



After my wreath was done, I knew it needed something else and that is where the bells came in! I took Chasity’s acorns as an idea and tweaked it. I glued 10 quilling strips together and then just rolled with it! Once I got the coil done, I stretched it similar to how she did her acorns. Then I SMASHED it! Which gives the bell it’s shape. I lined the inside with the glue, just like she did and let dry.



At this point, I still needed to add something, so I pulled out some stickers from the Holiday Quilled Cardmaking kit and then the Sticker Flair kit and created my sentiment.



And even though, I probably won’t mail this card, I think you could. Especially since the bells are smashed! In your cardmaking kit there are some foam sheets that are to help cushion your card if you should decide to mail it. How clever!!!

Christmas Card Ideas Part 2 using the Holiday Season Quilled Cardmaking Kit

Hello 3 Birds Fans! It's Juliana here to share some Christmas card ideas with you using our new Holiday Season Quilled Cardmaking Kit! I love how this kit covers the rainbow with both traditional and nontraditional Christmas colors. Yesterday, Robbie, shared two Christmas cards that were made using some of the brighter color combinations that are in the kit. The two cards that I'm sharing with you today were made using some of the more traditional colored pieces from the kit because I was drawn to the wood patterned paper and I just had to play with it!


To create the Good Times Good Cheer card, I cut a strip of the wood grained paper (from the Flora Festival Page Kit) and added it to the card front along with the green frame die cut. The sentiment is another die cut that I placed inside the card and you can see it through the square die cut window opening on the card. I then quilled a red poinsettia and two green holly boughs following the directions that come with the kit. The final touch was the addition of some red jewels from the Pearlescent and Foil Goodie Box and a twine bow.



The Tis the Season card started with another die cut window card as the base. I added a strip of cardstock paper to the card front as well as the die cut frame. Next, I attached the small square die cut images to the inside of the card. I then added the Tis the Season sentiment and created a quilled holly berry to further embellish the card.

Merry Christmas Layout

Hi everyone! Robbie today to share a page that I made. Last week, I told you I was in the Christmas mood, so I made another Christmas layout.

This layout is proof that the card kits aren't just for cards! There are so many great shapes and sentiments in the cards kits that will work beautifully on your layouts, too.

This beautiful little wreath is in the card kit and is ready to go! I just added a few of the foil pieces and I had an instant design element for my page.

The quilled poinsettias are also from the card kit.

Tip | Mix up bit and pieces from other collections. I used chipboard, pearls, stickers and die-cuts to add interest and dimension.

Don't forget the little touches. For balance, I added a couple of holly leaves, also from the card kit, to the corner of the photo to pull it all together.

Quilled Poinsettia Christmas Home Decor Frame

Hello 3 Birds Fans! It's Juliana here and I don't know about you, but I'm definitely getting into the holiday crafting spirit thanks to the new 3 Birds Holiday Season Quilled Cardmaking Kit. I have used this new kit to create quite a few Christmas cards and tags, which I will be sharing with you soon. Today however, I want to share a quilled poinsettia Christmas frame that I created. This is kit doesn't have to only be used for cardmaking and I think this project really showcases the versatility of this kit!



I started with a square frame from my local craft store and removed the glass to make room for the project since the quilled poinsettias are quite dimensional. To create the background, I cut a piece of patterned paper from the Flora Festival Page Kit sized to fit the opening of the frame. Next I adhered one of the holly wreath die cuts from the Holiday Season Quilled Cardmaking kit.

Next, I created five quilled poinsettias. To create the poinsettias I used one of each color of the red die cut strips in the kit and followed the instructions to create the flowers.

DESIGNER TIP | Clear adhesive dots are a great option for adhering quilled flowers to a project. The eliminate the mess of liquid glue and the danger of hot glue guns.



 

I then added the die cut "Merry Christmas". The final touch was the addition of some of red jewels to create clusters of "berries" on the wreath and on the Merry Christmas.

 

I can't wait to display this festive piece in my home during the holiday season. Do you enjoy creating decorations for the holidays? We'd love to see them!

I Believe in Santa Claus | Scrapbook Page

 

Hi everyone! Robbie today to share a page that I made. I'm ready for the holiday season to begin and with all the great choices of new products from 3 Birds, I couldn't resist making a Christmas page!



The title sticker was a natural fit because of the photo, too. I chose it because it echoes the print on Mom's shirt.



DESIGNER TIP | I added foam to the back of the sticker to make it easier to layer and to match up with the dimension of the other embellishments.



More layering was added with the flat stickers that were used for design and the terrific poinsettias that are included in the quilling kit. Here, I used pink centers to continue the non-traditional color choices.



 

The final touches include a big bow and more bits and pieces from the Quilled Card Kit Holiday season Edition.

Here We Grow Again!

Hey Everyone! It’s Kimberly Bloom here. Who, you ask? Well, I’m just one of the many "behind-the-scenes" girls at 3 Birds. I wanted to share some exciting news for all you 3 Birds Quilling Fans!

Drum roll please…. You can officially find our Quilling products in all Hobby Lobby Stores!

I took a visit the other night to check it out and take some pics. I just love Hobby Lobby and I always find myself trying to run in and out of the store, but instead end up spending 2 hours browsing around. I ended up picking up a bunch of Christmas craft items and splurging on new décor items for my girls' bedroom.

I finally made my way over to the Quilling section and did a little happy dance in the aisle. I’m sure the security crew was laughing at me through the cameras!

Right now, you can buy our Quilling Starter Kit, Wood Template and Crimper Tool. I visited the store in Akron Ohio, which only had 1 of each item left in stock. Hopefully your store will have plenty to go around, they are flying off the shelves! We are hoping to expand with more items in 2015 so stay tuned!

Never tried our crimper tool before? You can create some really unique shapes by running your quilling strip through the gears. It’s so easy to use and a tool that you can keep in your stash forever. Here are a few shapes we created by crimping the quilling strips!

Pearlescent & Foil Goodie Box Inspiration – Quilled Card

Hi everyone! Robbie here to talk about how much I love the Pearlescent and Foil Goodie Box that 3 Birds is releasing on HSN soon! This little box contains so many little flat backed pieces that are perfect for adding that extra touch of fabulous to your projects.

For today, I wanted to show you a little card that I made using quilled flowers combined with the Pearlescent and Foil pieces. After you take a look here, be sure to stop by my blog where I'm sharing a matching Gift Bag and Tag.

As you know by now, the quilled roses that you can make with the card kit are my favorites!! When I got this goodie box, I knew that I wanted to put some centers in my flowers, so that is what I did here with the card

I'm including a super close photo so you can see what it looks like. I just used tiny glue dots to adhere them right to the top. I also added them to the leaves the same way. No need to push down on them, the sit perfectly right on the top of the center.

One more close up to show the dimension of my card. A strip of paper with a border of punched paper added to the card completed the base. I used a Fiskars Scalloped Border punch for the borders.

I used foam dots to raise the doily from the background. I like the way this made it sit nicely against the bow.

Once I got started, I couldn't stop playing with this combination of products. Drop by next week to see what I put in the bag!

Altered Wood Letter Tutorial Using The Xyron Creative Station & A Giveaway

Happy Monday 3 Birds Fans and welcome to a wonderful week of inspiration! Thanks to the generosity of our friends from Xyron, the 3 Birds Design Team will be sharing projects created using Xyron's Creative Station and 3" Sticker Maker.  We are also celebrating the launch of our new products this Wednesday, July 23rd on HSN. Welcome everyone! It's Juliana here, and today I am sharing with you an altered wood letter that I created using the Xyron Creative Station along with our new 3 Birds Quill Ease Quilling Tool and Midday Medley Paper Collection.

As you may recall, I shared a Quilled Altered Wood Letter last week on the blog. Today I am sharing a similar letter, however today I'm going to show you how I adhered the patterned paper to the wood letter using the Xyron Creative Station.  This machine is wonderful for applying adhesive to large surface areas. It also won't buckle or warp your paper.

I began by creating my quilled flowers, leaves and swirls. I used the Quill Ease Quilling Tool for many of these shapes. I am so amazed at how much time it saves me to use this new tool when creating the basic coiled shapes. Once I had determined the placement for all of the elements, I took a quick photo using my camera phone. I always do this to to help me remember where all of the flowers go when it is time to adhere them to my project.

TUTORIAL | ALTERED WOOD LETTER WITH PATTERNED PAPER USING THE XYRON CREATIVE STATION

For this project, begin with a wooden letter. I found this one at my local Michael's craft store.


Select a piece of patterned paper that coordinates well with the embellishments you want to use.

Turn the paper over and the letter over so that the back side of each is facing up toward you. Place the letter onto the paper and trace around the outside shape of the letter using a pencil.



Cut out the letter shape. Measure the width of the sides of the letter. Cut three 1" x 12" strips from the same paper.Place the cut out shapes into the Xyron Creative Station with the printed side facing up. Turn the hand and guide the paper pieces into the machine. 

As the paper moves through the machine, adhesive is applied to the back side of each piece. Use the cutting bar included with the machine and trim off the piece once it has gone through the machine.

Remove the pieces from the backing material and adhere them to your letter.Use a sanding block to smooth the edges once you have adhered the paper to the wood letter.Attach the long strips to cover the sides of the letter. Trim them as needed. Use the sanding block again to smooth the edges once all of the paper is adhered.Now you are ready to add your quilled flowers and swirls or other embellishments.To decorate my letter, I used a few dimensional flowers from our Quilled Cardmaking Kit to create the yellow flower along with strips from the Quill Ease Quilling Took bundle. To finish the flowers, I added adhesive backed pearls to the center of each flower.

I hope you enjoyed learning about the Xyron Creative Station and how easy it makes applying adhesive to large surfaces. It's really ideal to use when creating home decor type pieces.
