September Scrapbook Sketch Feature

During the month of September, we shared our September Scrapbook Sketch with you and then showed how our 3 Bird Design Team was inspired by it. We then asked you, our 3 Birds Fans, to play along with us. By playing along you had the chance of being selected to be featured on our 3 Birds Facebook page and blog. We had two wonderful takes on the September Sketch, so we decided to feature both of them.

3 Birds Design September Scrapbook SketchRaechellus Bellus did a great job incorporating six photos into her layout using the sketch for inspiration and we love how she used our Graceful Season collection to scrapbook these photos of her family enjoying the beach.

Dinah Audish Christoph played along with us again this month and we adore her take on the sketch too! She was able to fit 7 photos onto her layout and we love how she flipped the right hand side of the sketch to work for her photos.

Zoo Fun Day | September Sketch Challenge

Hi everyone! It's Robbie today to share my take on the cute 2 page sketch. I'm another one who doesn't do many 2 page layouts anymore. I find that I don't have enough photos of most things to support 2 pages. What I do love about 2 page layouts is that there is more opportunity to share the story of the photos. On my layout, I used 5 photos instead of 7 photos, but even without journaling, you can clearly see what was going on in this trip to the zoo.

Hello Zoo Fun Day Scrapbook Page by Robbie Herring for 3 Birds Design using the September Scrapbook Sketch By now, you know that I like the little details that make up a page. The linear look of the sketch left me lots of space to add my own touches. Simple punched border strips added a bit of flair around the basic squares and bordered the set of photos without taking away from them.

Hello Zoo Fun Day Scrapbook Page by Robbie Herring for 3 Birds Design using the September Scrapbook Sketch I also added some long stitches along the edges. To make sure that my larger pictures really popped, I raised them up with some cardboard glued to the back.

Hello Zoo Fun Day Scrapbook Page by Robbie Herring for 3 Birds Design using the September Scrapbook Sketch In the sketch photo, there were both larger and smaller flowers. For my layout, I felt that the larger flowers that I tried were taking away from my photos and throwing off the balance of my layout. I chose to use all small flowers to accent my layout and leave the focus where it should be, on the photos.

Hello Zoo Fun Day Scrapbook Page by Robbie Herring for 3 Birds Design using the September Scrapbook Sketch For the title work, I mixed both alphabet letters and a sticker. I love to mix up different elements and the 3 Birds Stickers give so many options! The other thing that I wanted to try to show with this close-up is the way I altered the height of the photos. As I said before, I raised the larger photos with cardboard. As my layout came together, I realized that I had all the height on the page at each end. Raising one of the smaller one's brought back the balance.

Hello Zoo Fun Day Scrapbook Page by Robbie Herring for 3 Birds Design using the September Scrapbook Sketch Thanks so much for taking a peek at my take on this month's sketch! Hope that you will share any pages your make with the sketch with us!

Happiness Found | September Sketch Challenge

We’ve been sharing layouts made with the September sketch all this week here on the 3 Birds Studio blog, and today is my day to share! I don’t make a whole lot of two page layouts, but when I do, using a sketch sure helps because it gives me an idea of where to place my photos to get the most out of both pages.

Happiness Found Scrapbook Page by Mary Ann Jenkins for 3 Birds Design using the September SketchAs you can see, I picked different elements from the sketch to follow, but moved some of them around. Instead of placing the stripes behind the photos, I instead added one stripe to the top of my pages. I also still used a background piece behind my photos, but changed the size of it.

Happiness Found Scrapbook Page by Mary Ann Jenkins for 3 Birds Design using the September SketchFor the left side of my layout, I used the same amount of photos as shown on the sketch, (this is where a sketch comes in handy!) but changed the size of the photos, and also the placement of the embellishments. The new Pearlescent & Foil gems were perfect for a touch of glimmer and shine!

Happiness Found Scrapbook Page by Mary Ann Jenkins for 3 Birds Design using the September SketchOn the right side of my layout, I still used the same number of photos, but, I printed the four photos all together as one large 6x6 photo. I followed the sketch to place the 3D embellishment and red foil gems, but added those to the bottom of my journaling instead the top.

DESIGNER TIP | I like collecting patches from the different places we visit. These make great custom embellishments to add to your layouts.

Thanks for stopping by the 3 Birds Studio blog today; we would love to see how you use the sketch. Be sure to share them with us on our Facebook page!

Welcome Home | September Sketch Challenge

Hello 3 Birds Fans! It's Juliana here with my take on the September Sketch. I'll admit that I don't do a lot of double page layouts, but mostly because I usually don't have a lot of photos from events and activities. However, since we got our new puppy, I have been taking a lot of pictures. So, the likelihood that I might do more double page layouts in the future is quite high. The photos on this layout are from the first day we brought Lincoln home with us. I tried to capture all of the things he did that day with us which included lots of snuggling, playing, eating and sleeping.Welcome Home Scrapbook Page by Juliana Michaels for 3 Birds Design September Sketch Challenge

When I looked at the sketch, I was inspired by the large square shape and borders on each page as well as the placement of photos on the right side. I mixed things up a bit with the photo placement on the first page.

Welcome Home Scrapbook Page by Juliana Michaels for 3 Birds Design September Sketch ChallengeI used some of the new For All Seasons Themed Cards on this page. I even cut one of them in half to place above and below my photos and then added the title to it using some letter stickers from the Sticker Flair Kit.

I just love the gold foil on this card and the sentiment was perfect for capturing how we feel about our new puppy!

Mini Golf Scrapbook Page | September Sketch Challenge

It’s sketch time here on 3 Birds again and this month we have a two page sketch! It's Katrina with you today and here is my take on the September Sketch. I changed things up quite a bit, mainly the pictures and direction they were. This, of course, caused me to change a lot of other things!

Mini Golf Scrapbook Page by Katrina Hunt for 3 Birds Design using the September SketchOn all my layouts, I like to add embellishments to the corners. Here I added a couple of chipboard pieces from the Graceful Season Sticky Sparkly Glitter & Foil set, teamed up with a doily!

Mini Golf Scrapbook Page by Katrina Hunt for 3 Birds Design using the September SketchAnd here I teamed up some more chipboard, with some of the stickers from the Sticker Flair kit. To add the twine, I just ran a thin line of glue along the top of my stickers once they were on my page, then laid the twine on top. To create the loops, I just used a Zot from ThermOWeb to hold the loop in place. I tied the bows separately and attached them with a Zot also.

Mini Golf Scrapbook Page by Katrina Hunt for 3 Birds Design using the September SketchHere, I combined the Sticker Flair kit along with the new For All Seasons Project Cards. I trimmed one down to fit into the area I needed it to and popped stickers on top of it.

Mini Golf Scrapbook Page by Katrina Hunt for 3 Birds Design using the September SketchAnd I wanted to add a little journaling, so I used another card from the For All Seasons cards. It had a blank area at the top, so I just added journaling strips to that area. Confession, I was going to journal in white pen straight on the card, but forgot and adhered the card down! So, I improvised with the journaling strips!

We cannot wait to see your takes on the sketch!!!

September Scrapbook Sketch

Happy September 3 Birds Fans! Who can believe that September is here already? This year is flying by so fast. Just like last month, we are sharing another scrapbook sketch with you. This month's sketch is a 2 page layout, created by Mary Ann Jenkins, that can hold up to 7 photos. Of course, you can add more or less or even only use it to create a one page layout. It's up to you and what the sketch inspires you to create.

Next week, our design team will be sharing how the sketch has inspired them. Our hope is that the sketch and our designers interpretations of it will inspire you to pull out all of your 3 Birds products and play along with us. All you have to do is post your completed project on our 3 Birds Facebook page by the end of the month. We will then pick one of the projects and feature it and the designer both here on our blog and on our Facebook page in September! Ready, set, CREATE!!!  We can't wait to see what you share with us!

August Scrapbook Sketch Take 5 | Robbie Herring

Hi everyone! Robbie here today to share my take on the August Scrapbook Sketch! It is such a fun sketch and you can see from the previous posts that each of us had a different vision of it to make it come to life. As I've said in the past, 3 Birds collections are so versatile! Using the same sketch and the same products to come up with such different pages shows just how versatile the collections are!

Sweetest Moment Scrapbook Page by Robbie Herring for 3 Birds Design featuring August Scrapbook SketchTo start, I built my background. I used Chasity's fabulous tip using the Xyron Create to adhere the vellum to my page.

Instead of using several triangles to build my corners, I chose to use several strips to mimic the look of the sketch. I combined ribbon, stitching and even quilling strips to complete the look. The quilling strips are perfect to add directly to the page and the scalloped ones add such a cute touch!

Sweetest Moment Scrapbook Page by Robbie Herring for 3 Birds Design featuring August Scrapbook SketchNext up, I layered some pieces from the Summer Themed Card Set for some layering around the photo. Instead of using the card 'as is', I fussy cut around the cute scallops.

Sweetest Moment Scrapbook Page by Robbie Herring for 3 Birds Design featuring August Scrapbook Sketch

Of course, this is my page, so I added some little felt flowers, a few doilies and some extra stitching to embellish it! The 3D embellishment piece fit perfectly for a little extra touch!

August Scrapbook Sketch Take 4 | Katrina Hunt

Hello 3 Birds Fans! I hope you are enjoying the sketch inspiration that has been on the blog in the past week. Have you had a chance to play along with it yet? It’s Katrina on the blog here, to share my take on the sketch today.

There are page sketches, card sketches and tag sketches, right? But have you used a sketch for something other than was it was made specifically for? That is exactly what I did with the August Scrapbook Sketch. I created a card based on the page sketch!

Just A Note Card by Katrina Hunt featuring 3 Birds Design August Scrapbook SketchI dug into my Graceful Season goodies and got busy. I stuck with the sketch pretty closely, because I wanted to demonstrate how you can use it on a smaller scale for a different project. I used some of the fun Midday Medley glitter paper and then an arrow sticker from the Sticker Flair set.

Just A Note Card by Katrina Hunt featuring 3 Birds Design August Scrapbook SketchI did mix up my corner a bit with a die cut from the Graceful Season Quilled Card Making Kit and a fun little bauble from the Pearlescent & Foil Goodies set!

As you can see it was super easy to change this sketch over to a card. Play around and show us YOUR creations with this sketch. You might be featured here on the blog and our 3 Birds Design Facebook page!

I also did a layout based on the sketch too that you can find on my blog - Paper, Scissors and Glue. I would love for you to come over and check it out!

August Scrapbook Sketch Take 3 | Chasity Sivanick

Hey Birdies! Chasity here to share my take on the 3Birds August Scrapbook Sketch! I love the sketch that our Juliana came up with. I have to admit, I'm a bit of a rule follower, therefore I followed the sketch pretty much exactly, without much variance.  I love how quickly and easily the layout came together, just by following the sketch. I did have a lot of fun following along though!

BE_YOU_TIFUL_BY_CHASITY_SIVANICK_FOR_3_BIRDS_DESIGNFor my layout I started with a 12" x 12" piece of patterned paper from our Graceful Seasons Collection Paper Pack, still available on HSN.com. I cut my triangle pieces from the new Midday Medley Paper Pack, including the stunning printed vellum (you know it's my have!)! Once I adhered my triangle pieces, it was time to start layering. I chose six coordinating title cards from an upcoming product airing in September. The kit is called "For All Seasons" Themed Card Kit. (There will be more on that in the days to come!) My favorite part about 3Birds products is how easily interchangeable they are! From the products to the collections.. just so versatile!

I adhered the title cards to my layout in 2 rows, then I layered 3 circle stickers from the Midday Medley Nestable Festival Sticker Kit to create a visual triangle like the ones on the sketch! Before I put the smallest circle down, I snuck behind it a border sticker from our Sticker Flair Mega Sticker Kit! Inside the circles I placed some 3D Embellishments from or Midday Medley 3D Embellishment Kit. Phew! There are a ton of products on just this one layout! The title and Geotag stickers are from the Sticker Flair Mega Sticker Kit, popped up with foam adhesive squares. Lastly, I replaced the top layer of the 3D flowers with another "Coming Soon" product! Foil & Pearlescent Goodie Box. This new product will also be released in September! To finish the layout, I glued some of the "pearls" onto the layout to dress it up a little.

Hope you enjoyed my layout! I can't wait to see what the rest of the team comes up with! These ladies always blow my mind with their creativity!

Also, I would like to thank everyone who tuned in to HSN on July 23rd for the 24 Hour Crafting Event! It was an amazing 24 hours! We had a wonderful day launching our "Quill Ease" Quilling Tool and hanging with many of the biggest names in the industry! Stay tuned for some "Behind the Scenes" photos from the day!

August Scrapbook Sketch Take 2 | Mary Ann Jenkins

Hi 3 Birds friends, it’s Mary Ann here today to share a layout made with the very first 3 Birds Design scrapbook sketch, designed by our very own Juliana Michaels!! The whole design team is jumping in to play with the August Scrapbook Sketch, so be sure to look each day to see how each of us “makes it our own”.

If you’ve never used a sketch before, this might be a fun time to give it a try! There’s no right or wrong, you just use it as inspiration. You can copy a sketch exactly, or change it up a bit by rotating or flipping the image, use a square in place of a circle, 2 photos instead of one etc. The possibilities are endless.

For my take on the sketch, I followed the general design pretty close, (but still made it my own!) starting with the large triangle in the bottom right corner, along with the stripes at the top of the triangle.

Polar Bear Scrapbook Page by Mary Ann Jenkins for 3 Birds Design using the August Scrapbook SketchI also followed the sketch and added in the two rectangles at the top of the photo, and embellished them with the cute camera from the Midday Medley 3D Embellishment Kit, and the Geotag sticker from the Sticker Flair Kit. Notice the sweet little heart I stamped in the center of the Geotag, using a stamp from the Midday Medley Timeless Stamp Kit.

Polar Bear Scrapbook Page by Mary Ann Jenkins for 3 Birds Design using the August Scrapbook SketchNext to the photo I added the “this is my favorite” shaker box in place of the square on the sketch, and then embellished the area a bit more with a few splashes of paint, and the glitter chipboard chevrons. You probably noticed the pretty sparkly gems too! These will be coming to HSN soon They are part of a 1,400 piece set of Pearlescent and Foil Goodie Box that you will be able to add to your projects. You are going to love them!!

Polar Bear Scrapbook Page by Mary Ann Jenkins for 3 Birds Design using the August Scrapbook SketchDESIGNER TIP | I wanted just a bit of white in with the cluster of embellishments so I added the white arrow from the Stamp Kit. The Stamp Kit comes with pre die cut pieces of paper, cut to perfectly fit the stamps, but I used the arrow just as it is, without stamping on it at all.

Polar Bear Scrapbook Page by Mary Ann Jenkins for 3 Birds Design using the August Scrapbook SketchOne of the elements I didn’t follow on the sketch was the title and journaling placement. Instead of adding them below my photo, I added the journaling directly to the photo before printing, then added the title using stickers from the Sticker Flair Kit. You could also achieve the same look by handwriting your journaling on the photo with a “photo-safe” permanent marker, then adding the sticker title.

Don't forget to share your projects with us on our Facebook page for your chance to be featured on our 3 Birds Blog and Facebook Page!

I hope you enjoyed my take on the August Sketch. For more 3 Birds inspiration, be sure to visit my blog - i rock paper & scissors - for some quick and easy cards that I created.

August Scrapbook Sketch Take 1 - Juliana Michaels

Happy Tuesday 3 Birds Fans! Juliana here, with my take on the 3 Birds August Scrapbook Sketch. I loved this sketch and really enjoyed creating with it. I find sketches to be a great starting point and source of inspiration when I'm making a scrapbook page. You don't have to follow them exactly and you can take the things you like about it and incorporate those things into your layout. This sketch inspired me so much though that I used it to create two layouts. I made the layout I'm sharing below and another one using 3 photos that I'm sharing on my blog - 17turtles. So make sure you stop by and check it out if you are looking for more ideas on how to use this sketch.

One of the things that I loved about this sketch are the large triangle pieces in each corner. They inspired me to use a lot of different patterns from the Midday Medley Paper Collection. The large diagonal pink stripe in the background, the light blue and the click paper, are "new" sheets of paper that I used for this layout. All of the other pieces are from scraps that I used on other projects. I love to save my scraps, no matter what size they are. If one of my punches can be used on it, then it's worth keeping as far as I am concerned.

Pure Joy Scrapbook Page by Juliana Michaels 3 Birds Design using the Midday Medley Collection The other thing I liked about this sketch are the three circles. They inspired me to use some of the circle stickers from the Midday Medley Nestable Festival. I placed the stickers onto the blue paper and then trimmed around them before I placed them on my layout. The placement of the circles forms a nice visual triangle and helps to keep your eye focused on my photo.

Pure Joy Scrapbook Page by Juliana Michaels 3 Birds Design using the Midday Medley Collection To embellish my page, I used a variety of goodies including stickers from the new Sticker Flair kit and one from the Midday Medley 3D Embellishment Kit. I also used a couple of soon to be released products. Check out those pearl and foil jewels! Those are from a new Pearlescent and Foil Goodie Box that will be available soon through HSN. Stay tuned here and on our Facebook page for show dates and times!Pure Joy Scrapbook Page by Juliana Michaels 3 Birds Design using the Midday Medley Collection Another new product that I used was the For All Seasons Themed Cards. I used it for my journaling box. These cards are going to be great for everything from pocket page scrapbooking to card making and more!
