Crafting With Found Items | Fall Home Decor

Last week while I was cooking dinner, I noticed that the jar the pasta sauce came in was such a nice shape and thought maybe, just maybe I could make something fun out of it. That got the ideas going, and before I knew it, I had two home décor projects ready for Fall.

So how about a pasta sauce tealight holder!



Once I had the jar rinsed and dried, I added orange paint to the inside. I rolled it from side to side, making sure all areas of the glass were covered, and then let it sit overnight to dry. To decorate the outside, I cut the “Fall” themed card into an oval, and fussy cut the floral swag, both from the Autumn For All Seasons Themed Card set, then added a few gems from the Pearlescent and Foil Goodie Box Set.

After decorating the jar, I added a ribbon to the top and a tealight to the inside! It looks just as pretty during the day as it does at night!

For my next “found item” project, can you believe I used a tuna can?

After cleaning and drying the can, I gave it a coat of orange paint and let it sit long enough for the paint to dry. Next I cut a circle with a 3” punch and added the cute face cut from cardstock. The stem is a scrap of paper, and the leaves and vines were made from green quilling strips in the new Holiday Season Quilled Card Making Kit.

I didn’t worry about the back or inside of the can since I was going to sit it on a shelf, but you could also cover the back of the can with a scrap of paper too.

HSN Sneak Peak | Fun Friday!

Hey there 3Birds Peeps!!! Happy October! Chasity here today, and I want to know, are you getting as excited as we are for the 24 Crafting Day on HSN! We cannot wait! So if you stopped by last Monday, you saw the newest Quilling Card Kit from 3Birds. This kit has new dimensional quilling strips to really dress up those holiday cards! Touch of Glimmer Embellishment Kit... Oh swoon. There are no words that will do this justice, so I am just going to jump right into the samples.



I know these samples are the gold foil.. but there is also silver foil, silver glitter and gold glitter! The color palette is neutral enough that it will match any of our 3Birds kits, or any of the stash you have at home! So very classy and sophisticated! The paper bows included are amazing, the storage box is so beautiful, you'll re-use it when all the goodies are gone! Here's a few tips about the storage box; the window on the lid holds a 4" x 6" photo perfectly, and if you pull out the insert paper included and flip it over, the directions are printed on the back for crating the paper bows in the kit! Classy! There is some serious glimmer in this kit; chipboard, die cuts, 3D embellishments & sequins. I can't get enough of it, and I can't stop playing with it. You guys are going to absolutely love, love it!

Halloween Boo Banner

Halloween is just around the corner and it's one of my favorite holidays. Hi 3 Birds Fans, it's Juliana with you here! I love to decorate my home with hand made decorations. This year, I decided to make a fun and only slightly spooky Halloween banner using my electronic cutting machine and some of my favorite 3 Birds Design products.



 

To create the banner shape, I used a digital cut file, but you can easily create your own banner shape by drawing it onto a piece of scrap paper and using it as a template. Each piece of this banner is 5" wide by 6" tall. You can then use a 1/4" hole punch to create a hole in each corner.


The Midday Medley and Graceful Season Paper Collections each had some papers that were perfect for Halloween. I also loved using some of the Foil and Glitter papers as well. These paper cut so smoothly.



All of the images were also cut using my electronic cutting machine and some digital cut files. I layered some of the die cut images and gave them some dimension by adhering them with double sided foam tape. The black border strips were created using a border punch. The final touch was to add a few of black pearls from the Pearlescent and Foil Goodie Box.

September Scrapbook Sketch Feature

During the month of September, we shared our September Scrapbook Sketch with you and then showed how our 3 Bird Design Team was inspired by it. We then asked you, our 3 Birds Fans, to play along with us. By playing along you had the chance of being selected to be featured on our 3 Birds Facebook page and blog. We had two wonderful takes on the September Sketch, so we decided to feature both of them.

Raechellus Bellus did a great job incorporating six photos into her layout using the sketch for inspiration and we love how she used our Graceful Season collection to scrapbook these photos of her family enjoying the beach.



Dinah Audish Christoph played along with us again this month and we adore her take on the sketch too! She was able to fit 7 photos onto her layout and we love how she flipped the right hand side of the sketch to work for her photos.

Touch of Glimmer Cards with Bow Tutorial

Have you SEEN the new Touch of Glimmer kit yet? I am in love with it and so I'm featuring it here on the blog today. I wanted to show you how easy it is to create elegant cards with just a few pieces from the kit. Also, I am going to show you how to make the bows that come in the kit!

How fun and elegant are those cards?! There are lots of elements to play with in the kit. The bows actually come in three pieces and you have to piece them together.

You can make bows that are “poofy” as I like to call them, or you can choose to make flat ones. My cards feature one of each. My step-outs show how to make the poofy one, but all you would do for the flat one is just flatten the bow.

First use your fingers to curl the main part of the bow, just kind of roll it a little until you get a nice curl in it. Then place an adhesive dot in the center on the back of the bow. I used Zots by ThermOWeb in the small size for piecing my bow together.

Fold in the ends of the bow and adhere them to the dot in the center of your bow. Don’t flatten if you want poofy, just carefully curl the ends toward the middle. If you want flat, just smash it down!

To cover the center, you will use the small rectangle piece. I used around 3 to 4 adhesive dots to completely cover my rectangle. Then you will just fold this over the center of the bow and adhere the ends.



Use the remaining piece and attach it to the side of the bow that has the seam of the center piece showing. Now you have a cute bow, which we are going to make cuter by putting on a card!

I used one of the shaped tags in the kit and cut it half to make it go further. The middle will be covered up by another tag.

Add another tag from the kit to cover the middle and then attach your bow at the top. I just used some mounting squares, because they were the perfect size and I needed something bigger than the Zots that I had been using.

Time to put the finishing touches on. There is also chipboard that comes in the kit. It is not self adhesive, which I love! You can choose what adhesive you want to put on there. I like to use 3D foam adhesive for chipboard, so this works out great that the chipboard will not stick to your project, only where you have put it!

So, lets see some close ups!
